For those of you who are familiar with the Prince of Persia series, this particular edition is number 5. The original Prince of Persia debuted in 1989 as an action-adventure that revolved around swordplay and tricky jumps. The second in the series was released in 1993 under the moniker Prince of Persia 2: The Shadow and the Flame, upgrading the graphics to a more pleasurable 256 colors. The third game is barely worth mention - the Prince of Persia 3D release in `99 was an awful attempt at recreating the original in 3D. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time (2003) was an infinite step up from its previous versions. It included not only a more interesting storyline, but better combat action, environments, and graphics that were much more pleasing to the eye.
The Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (The Once and Future King) is the most impressive yet in Ubisoft`s PoP series. In this installment, our beloved Prince is being hunted by an all-powerful guardian of time named Dahaka, who is enraged at his actions in The Sands of Time storyline. (For all you guys out there, Dahaka is a dark-haired vixen scantily clad in leather). Her purpose is to erase the Prince from time altogether, and prophesizes his inevitable death. Thus, our storyline begins...as the Prince does his very best to defy her prophesy.
Warrior Within promises to be much darker than the previous installments, with darker environments and costumes to match the sinister plot. The combat system has been improved upon; you can still manipulate time, and as a bonus, impressive additions have been added as well. Players can now pick up the weapons of fallen enemies, allowing for an expanded dual-weapon melee combat. Once you get bored with whatever weapon you`ve picked up, you can throw it at enemies to gain extra damage points. A nice little extra allows for flashy, slow-motion decapitations in addition to other new fatality blows. Warrior Within promises to be worth the money, (and for those of us who haven`t downloaded it already) worth the wait.
